Tips for writing hymns and new songs

Do you have musical talent or ease with words? You can send something to be considered for the new hymnbook and Songs for children!

If you have not heard, the Church is reviewing the hymnbook and Songs for the children. And you are invited to help!

"Perhaps the hymns and the most significant songs of the Restoration have not yet been written!" Said Elder LeGrand R. Curtis Jr. of the Seventy. "We encourage our talented members to consider in a spirit of prayer what they could add to the Church's music collection that we already know and love."

Give suggestions (such as what are your favorite hymns and songs and what you would like to see in a new hymnal) or send your own original hymn or song for consideration! Although it doesn't have to be a complete song, you can also send only the lyrics or just the music. The deadline for shipments is July 1, 2019. It may seem that much is still missing, but time passes quickly, so if you think you would like to send one or two songs, start soon download lagu.

Remember: all languages ​​and cultural styles will be considered, but the music you send must be appropriate for use in worship services. Inspiring music invites the Spirit of the Lord to our lives, unites us, creates an atmosphere of reverence and gives us another way to offer praise to the Lord.

If you think you would like to write a hymn or a song, here are some tips to help you get started:

Write a letter that teaches and explains the doctrine of the Gospel through analogies, stories and examples. You must invite and inspire!

• ·     Try to choose a main idea to write about and stick to it. Many songs in a song can be confusing! Think about what gospel principles are meaningful to you and consider creative ways to write about them.
• Don't just expect inspiration; Look it up! Good ideas can come from speeches, the scriptures, life or personal revelation.
• The melodies should be simple and easy to remember; the repetition is good.
• Do you have a good idea? Record it on a voice device so you don't forget it!
• Keep trying! Writing songs is hard work; you may have to write a few songs before having one that you like.
